How to Use Conditions and Actions in Automations

VESYL’s Automations engine helps you save time, reduce manual errors, and ship faster by applying custom rules to your orders—automatically.

With just a few clicks, you can build logic-based workflows that assign carriers, apply tags, adjust insurance, and more based on order attributes like destination, weight, SKU, or shipping method.

What Are Conditions and Actions?

Conditions are the rules that define when an automation should run.

Actions are the tasks that will automatically be applied to the order when the condition is met.

Think of it like:
​“IF [Condition] → THEN [Action]”

Example Automations

Condition → Action

Order weight is over 10 lbs → Add "Heavy" tag and apply FedEx Ground

Order destination is international → Add customs declaration and assign DHL

Shipping method is "Free Shipping" → Assign USPS Ground Advantage

SKU contains “Glassware” → Add insurance and flag for special packaging

Order value is over $100 → Add signature confirmation

Common Conditions You Can Use

You can trigger automations based on fields like:

  • Order weight
  • Order value
  • Destination (country, zone, etc.)
  • Selected shipping method
  • Order tags
  • Product SKU
  • Package type

Actions You Can Automate

Once conditions are met, VESYL can automatically:

  • Assign a specific shipping carrier and service
  • Apply a predefined package
  • Add insurance or signature confirmation
  • Add internal tags for filtering and reporting
  • Exclude the order from batch processing
  • Auto-select customs settings for international shipments

Automate Your Rate Shopping

VESYL’s automations also allow you to dynamically rate shop—automatically selecting the cheapest eligible service from a list of predefined carriers.

This means you can offer standard shipping on your storefront, while VESYL ensures you always get the best rate behind the scenes.

Example:
If a customer selects “Standard Shipping” during checkout, your automation can compare USPS Ground Advantage, UPS Ground, and other preferred services—and automatically apply the lowest-cost option that meets your criteria.

This helps you:

  • Reduce shipping costs without manual rate comparisons
  • Maintain fast delivery expectations
  • Scale fulfillment with confidence that you’re not overspending

How to Set Up an Automation

  1. Go to the Automations tab in your VESYL dashboard
  2. Click “Create New Automation”
  3. Define your Conditions using dropdowns and logic
  4. Choose one or more Actions to apply
  5. Give the rule a name and save it
